The SPA’s annual awards were announced at the 2014 SPA Business Meeting. All of the prize committees noted the highly competitive nature of this year’s submissions. The Stirling Prize for Best Book Published in Psychological Anthropology went to Geoffrey Saxe’s Cultural Development of Mathematical Ideas: Papua New Guinea Studies (2012, Cambridge University Press). The Condon Prize for Best Student Essay in Psychological Anthropology was awarded to Nofit Itzhak for her essay “Making Selves and Meeting Others in Neo-Shamanic Healing.” Look for it in an upcoming issue of Ethos! And finally Tine Gammeltoft was given the Boyer Prize for Contributions to Psychoanalytic Anthropology for her Ethos article Toward an Anthropology of the Imaginary: Specters of Disability in Vietnam (2014).
Congratulations to Geoffrey, Nofit, and Tine!Read More

We have a great line up of 14 SPA-reviewed sessions on the program for the AAA Meeting from December 3-7, 2014. These include 3 invited sessions, one of which has been co-sponsored with the Society for Humanistic Anthropology and another with the Biological Anthropology Section. We also highly-reviewed another 7 sessions that were placed on the schedule. In addition, we formed 3 paper sessions and 1 poster session out of individually submitted abstracts and found homes for other individual papers in already-formed SPA sessions and sessions organized by other sections as well. Continuing from what we started last year, SPA members with related interests agreed to serve as chairs and discussants for each of the paper sessions SPA organized.
Looking forward to seeing lots of you there!
