  1. I appreciate the work going into this conference and hope all the best for its success. Would you be able to consider moving the conference to another hotel in solidarity with the Hyatt housekeepers fighting against chronic workplace injuries with a global boycott of Hyatt hotels?

    • Hi Tristan,
Thanks for getting in touch. Picking a unionized hotel was very important to us. The website says in the fine print at the bottom that their boycott does NOT extend to the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay, the site of our conference, where the workers are represented by UNITE-HERE. However, if the situation changes, please let me know. We do have a contract, but it includes a contingency requirement that the Hyatt has to finalize their contract with the union.
      I hope you’ll come!

        SPA members:

I am writing on behalf of the AAA Committee on Labor Relations (CLR,) of which I am Chair. The CLR is following the international boycott of the Hyatt chain, which was called for and supported by labor and civil rights groups to protest abuses against workers at Hyatt hotels.

The San Diego Hyatt Regency Mission Bay location, where your conference is being held, is on the PLEASE PATRONIZE list of Hotel Workers Rising/UNITE-HERE. It is NOT included in the boycott because it currently has a labor contract with its union workers. Along with the SPA president, we are mindful of the boycott and are watching for any changes in the situation that might affect the San Diego property.

To learn more about the boycott, or to see the list of boycotted and non-boycotted locations, visit the campaign website at

On behalf of the CLR, I want to thank the SPA board for seeking out a union hotel for your biennial conference.
